Experiencing and expressing God's unconditional love.

W.O.W.

We are fortunate that two foreign missionary teams are in the states around the time of our usual Wednesday emphasis on outreach:

September 3, 6:30 p.m. - Lonnie and Fran Turner will share about the projects in Zambia including the digging of wells and the building of the new school.

September 17, 6:30 p.m. - David and Julie Brown will tell us about their work as co-directors of the refugee ministry in Morocco. In honor of their visit, we are providing the opportunity to purchase gift cards in the amount of your choice to support their ministry. Gift cards are available in the Fellowship Hall.

Fellowship Supper Menu

  • September 3: Taco salad, chips, and salsa, dessert
  • September 10: Barbecue, baked beans, slaw, dessert

Senior Adult Recognition Day - Sept. 14

Senior Adult Recognition Day will by Sunday, September 14th, during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Featured speaker will be Dr. Mark Medley, Professor at the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky. The Senior Adult Choir will also be providing the music for the worship service.

A free luncheon will follow in the Fellowship Hall for all senior adults (age 55+). To make reservations, please sign up on the sheet on the Senior Adult bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall or call the church office. The program will include recognition of two retiring XYZ officers and music by the Women's Ensemble.

West Point Fall Gathering - Sept. 20

Donations will be accepted beginning September 1:

  • Clothing: Adult clothing is needed, mainly in larger sizes and for casual dress. Children's clothing of ALL sizes is always in demand.
  • School supplies: Please restrict donations to these specific items: ink pens, spiral notebooks, markers, colored pencils, scissors, and folders with pockets.
  • Bibles: Youth Bibles and Bible story books that are suitable for late elementary age children. You may purchase these Bibles and/or books or make a donation which will be used to buy some of these in bulk.

Volunteers are needed to make this gathering a success. Please let Jane Brake know if you can help with tent set up, grilling, porch building, games, food preparation, or providing a truck for hauling. Please sign up in the foyer.

Bells for All Ages

Children

All children age 3 through third grade are invited to "make a joyful noise" in Rainbow Ringers, our children’s color-coded handbell choir. Rehearsals begin Wednesday, September 3, at 5:30 p.m. in the preschool area. Hopefully, this group will be able to develop enough of a repertoire to perform in the Candlelight Tour this Christmas and throughout the community--in addition to ringing in our worship services, of course! If you have any questions about this group, please see Lisa. Your child's friends are also welcome.

Adults

All adults are invited to sign up on Naomi’s office door ASAP. Rehearsals will be most Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. If we have enough signed up we will begin rehearsing the last week in August or the week after Labor Day.

Christmas Memories Needed

Please share your Christmas memories with us in this year’s Advent devotional book. Our children will be contributing their artwork and our young people and college folks will be adding their memories to the collection of stories, recipes and family activities to do together to create new Christmas memories. By sharing our own families’ reflections, we enrich our relationships and grow in deeper relationship with our church family. Please contact Rev. Wood if you’d like to share one of your Christmas memories!

TV’s with DVD Players Needed

If you will be replacing your older TV with one of the newer digital models, please consider donating your older TV with a built in DVD player to our children’s ministry. Our Sunday School material often calls for viewing a portion of a DVD as an enhancing component to the lesson, but several of our classes are without a TV in their Sunday School rooms. We may not be able to provide each class with a TV, but we can rotate the ones we do have. The addition of at least two more TV’s with DVD players would be a wonderful addition to our children's classes and our kids would certainly appreciate your contribution.

Local Ministry Opportunities

Tutoring Project

In light of the education budget cuts recently enacted, IBC will begin a free tutoring program for the students of Collins Lane Elementary and possibly Bondurant Middle School. If you would be willing to commit to serving as a volunteer tutor approximately two to three hours, one day per week, during the school year, contact the church office.

Immanuel Care Meals Ministry

If you would like to support the service of this team, who prepare and deliver home-cooked meals to church members or related family members during the circumstances of illness or funeral, please contact Karen Dungan. Volunteers are needed to provide a dish, deliver a meal, or assist with serving a meal for the bereaved.

IRC Needs

Your continued support is greatly appreciated. There are many items that the IRC has a standing need for such as diapers, diaper wipes, bottles, baby wash, baby lotion, fitted crib sheets (standard size), bibs, and baby clothes through size 24 months. Contributions for the purchase of cribs and mattresses are also welcome. Donated items may be left in the purple bin in the Fellowship Hall, or given to Anna Mayne.

Also, if you have a crib, or would like to donate towards the purchase of one, please contact Anna Mayne.
